Solar pool heating has been saving pool owners money for decades.  Our solar pool heating systems have a proven track record of reliability and performance.  The systems operate maintenance-free and work with your existing pump and filtration system.  They are installed to preheat the water before reaching your gas water heater, or can be sized to completely replace your gas heating unit.  We can determine the best solution for your situation so that the system will pay for itself in only 3 to 4 years.

Our solar pool heaters come equipped with a solar controller which gives you a digital readout of the temperature on the roof and the temperature in your pool.  Just set the desired pool temperature and let the solar pool heater work it’s magic.  Solar pool heaters also require very little maintenance.   Our systems are easy to winterize to prevent freezing.  Best of all, solar pool systems are designed for a lifetime of use and come with a manufacturer’s limited warranty of 18 years!  On top of all the money you’ll be saving, you’ll also be reducing smog and climate change emissions thereby creating a more sustainable lifestyle – it just makes sense to do it!

How it works:

Solar pool collectors are installed typically on the roof but can be mounted on the ground usually on a platform.  Two pipes carry the pool water to and from the pool to the solar heating collectors.  Sensors on the roof and inserted into the pool line read the temperatures and tell the solar controller when to circulate the pool water to the roof.  When the temperature on the roof is warmer than the temperature in the pool, the actuator automatically turns the 3-Port valve to direct the flow of water to the roof first and then to the pool. Pool water enters the solar collectors at the bottom and rises to the top through the collector.   As the water rises through the solar collector it is heated by the sun’s radiant energy.   The swimming pool water then returns to your pool to repeat the cycle until your pool is the right temperature.  If the temperature on the roof is cooler than the pool (such as at night or on cloudy/rainy days), the flow of pool water bypasses the route to the roof and the pool water travels directly to the pool.  This prevents the panels from cooling the pool at night or on poor weather days.

Advantages of a Solar Pool Heating Systems:

- It will save you on your gas bills.  Most of our customers leave their gas heaters off or replace them completely with one of our solar pool heaters.  The payback of one of our solar pool heating systems is typically 4 years or less.

- Our solar pool heating systems are fully automated.  Our Goldline solar controllers have a digital display which allows you to read the temperature on the roof and the temperature of your pool.  There is a dial that allows you to set the temperature of the pool.  The controller automatically rotates a 3-Port valve to redirect the flow to the roof and so an additional pump is not required.

- The system runs off your existing pool pump so our solar pool heating systems don’t require any additional power to run.

- The solar pool heating system requires minimal maintenance.  The only maintenance required is to drain out the solar collectors before the first frost.  This can usually be done from the ground in less than 20 minutes.  Once this is done the system is ready for the next swimming season.

- The system will last a long time.  Not only are our systems warrantied for 18 years but will last well beyond 20 years paying for themselves many times over during their lifetime.

- Our solar pool collectors are Bisphenol A (BPA) free and are safe.

Sizing a Solar Pool Heating System:

A solar pool heating system is typically sized based on the surface area of a pool.  The starting point of a solar pool heating system is 50% of the surface area of the pool if you have ideal southerly exposure to the sun.  For example, if you have a 16′ x 32′ pool (or 512 sq ft), you would want a minimum of 256 sq ft of solar pool collector area.  Therefore if the collectors are 4′ x 10′ in size each, then you would need 6 or 7 collectors.

However, if your pool is significantly shaded or the roof faces east or west, you will need to scale your system up beyond 50% and will likely need 65% or more of the surface area of your pool in collector area.   Placing your collectors on a north facing roof will not work to heat your pool because the sun travels on the southern horizon.
